What happens in a typical web development project? It's not all smoke and mirrors, just a logical process that starts with identifying what's needed and ends with delivering a solution.
Here's a diagram that summarises the main stages of a project, showing the inputs and outputs at each stage. Not every project will follow this process to the letter, but it gives an idea of the usual sequence of events.

Of course, many website projects are far more complex (or simpler), so this is only an approximation. There’s really no such thing as a typical web project!
An iterative process
Designing and managing a website is often a circular process rather than a linear one. After a website is launched it’s time to review objectives, analyse feedback, monitor online marketing and fine-tune SEO (search engine optimisation) techniques. Then you may need to go back to step one, adjust scope and content, or design and build more features, evolving your website to suit your business and market. No time to rest on your laurels...!
